Co-founded by fashion designer Shani Himanshu (Domus Academy, Milan) and graphic designer Mia Morikawa (Central Saint Martin’s University of the Arts, London), 11.11/eleven eleven is a brand that produces ethically-made, environmentally-conscious, hand-crafted clothing in India. Delhi-based Himanshu and New York-based Morikawa put artisans and craftmanship at the forefront of their "seed to stitch" company, using indigenous cotton, natural dyes, and heritage techniques such as hand spinning, hand loom weaving, hand painting, miniature tie-dyeing, and quilting. The artisans live rurally in locations all across India, and produce their works in small, slow batches. Each season, the brand aims to produce garments that dissolve distinctions between geographic and gender boundaries. From 11.11: "Making clothes has the potential to incentivize social cohesion and shift impact from being exploitative and culturally degenerative to being regenerative with a focus on reclaiming culture and recovery."
