These unique earrings designed by Nagano-based artist, Shima Hotta, feature an iridescent coloring made by putting flames to the silver and brass, and the natural oxidation that occurs afterwards. To make the silver burned on brass works, the artist coats silver liquid on unprocessed brass up to four or five times. The silver layer is thicker than the plating. Over time, the silver will tarnish gently for a more antique look; simply polish with a silver cleaning cloth to refresh. The oxidized, torched areas will continue to change color.
