This vintage necklace with a raw unpolished amethyst stone was designed by Pentti Sarpaneva for Torun Hopea in Finland in the 1960s. The pendant feature a natural patina with fine, bold, textured relief markings, and imprinted on the back is the stamp of P. Sarpaneva. The jewelry is in good vintage condition.
Size of pendant: 2 3/4 " H x 1 1/4 " W. Length of chain (doubled) measures 12 1/2".
Pentti Akseli Sarpaneva (1925-1978) was a Finnish designer who began his design career in the early/mid-1960s, specializing in affordable jewelry and other small items. His works were originally made from enamel and recycled materials, but he later moved on to cast items of bronze, silver and gold.
