Torso is a Japanese brand specializing in canvas bags made on looms that have been in operation for over 40 or 50 years. Their bags are made from a special cotton canvas that has been treated with paraffin in order to be water repellent. The yarn in the canvas is exceptionally strong and firm due to the combing process which selects the longest cotton fibers and straightens them before they are spun into yarn. This also gives the yarn a particularly lustrous appearance. The canvas also features a solid selvedge edge due to having been woven on an old-fashioned shuttle loom, a unique aspect of Torso bags and one which is highlighted wherever possible through design. Each Torso bag will soften gently with use. Imprinted on many of their bags is "TEMBEA," which means 'to wander' in Swahili.
