Chasen White Bamboo

This shiratake (白竹), or white bamboo, is one of the ideal raw materials for chasen making due to its fine surface and elegant curves.

Precautions for Use

Gently lift up the central bristles of the Chasen, take off the base paper, and wipe off the bottom part of the handle with a wet cloth. Rinse gently with hot water before use.

Chasen is sensitive to artificial temperature change. Please do not press Chasen against the bottom of a tea bowl; the tip may break off. Handled gently, the tea whisk will last longer.

No dishwashers or dishdryers, sudden changes in temperature and humidity may cause breakage.

After use, rinse the whisk with hot water and allow it to dry naturally before storing it away from high temperature, high humidity, and direct sunlight.

In addition, the natural drying process may cause vertical cracks. These cracks are are viewed as a change in the expression and texture of bamboo's natural character.

Handmade in Takayama, Japan.
