Toru Kikuchi’s pottery style is very distinctive. He first selects the weight of the clay and then begins creating shapes as he sees fit. Thus, the individual pieces in a series may be similar in weight but often differ in shape and are never identical.
Balancing artistry with function, he creates work that can be enjoyed as both sculpture and everyday objects such as vases or bowls. Kikuchi also experiments extensively with glazes, often embracing unexpected results that lend each piece its own distinctive beauty.
