This shirt features a comfortably oversized silhouette with a slightly shorter length. Designed to highlight the natural wrinkles and texture of the fabric, visible stitching is kept to a minimum, reinforcing only areas where strength is needed.
The cuffs are thoughtfully constructed with a folded design inspired by paper, allowing you to easily locate and fasten the buttons by touch. The buttons, made from compressed cotton, are garment-dyed along with the fabric for a cohesive finish.
The original fabric combines washi paper yarn in the warp with hemp yarn in the weft. Washi textiles date back to the Nara period, traditionally crafted by tearing paper into fine strips and weaving them into cloth. Today, advanced techniques transform washi into durable filament yarn. This piece uses OJO yarn from Oji Fiber—made by finely slitting Manila hemp-based washi paper and twisting it into lightweight, strong threads with excellent quick-drying properties and minimal pilling.
