Details

Dating from the early 20th century, this hand-carved shallow wooden bowl, or mayuzara, was used for sericulture (the production of silkworms), a common practice in Japanese homes at the time. These hand-carved cocoon plates have a warm feel to them and can also be used as trays to hold fruit or potpourri.
