Traditional Japanese bamboo matcha whisk featuring approximately 80 finely split tines, designed to create smooth, evenly whisked matcha with a fine layer of foam. Ideal for preparing usucha (thin matcha).

The shiratake (白竹), or white bamboo, is one of the best raw materials for making chasen, thanks to its fine surface and elegant curves.

Handcrafted in Takayama, Nara Prefecture, an area renowned for its centuries old bamboo chasen making tradition.

Precautions for Use

Gently lift up the central bristles of the Chasen, take off the base paper, and wipe off the bottom part of the handle with a wet cloth. Rinse gently with hot water before use.

Chasen is sensitive to artificial temperature change. Please do not press Chasen against the bottom of a tea bowl; the tip may break off. Handled gently, the tea whisk will last longer.

Do not use dishwashers or dishdryers, and avoid sudden changes in temperature and humidity, as these may cause breakage.

After use, rinse the whisk with hot water and allow it to dry naturally before storing it away from high temperature, high humidity, and direct sunlight.

In addition, the natural drying process may cause vertical cracks. These cracks are viewed as a change in the expression and texture of bamboo's natural character.
