Six coup de foudre (シス クー・ド・フードル) is a Japanese ethical leather brand launched in 2006 by designer Atsushi Takamizawa. The name combines the French phrase meaning "love at first sight, through the sixth sense." At the same time, it also plays on the Japanese words "shisu" (to die), "kuu" (to eat), and "food," expressing a strong desire to "receive life, use it as food, and utilize the by-product, the skin, as a product."
We actively use the hides of wild game animals such as deer, bears, and wild boars that are captured as pests, and our belief in making the most of lives that would otherwise be discarded is at the heart of our product creation. We also incorporate rare materials such as carp leather, and we make sure to use every last bit of material, even combining small scraps into patchwork designs.
The brand uses many "U-shaped" clasp clasps, and because it takes the shape of a "U" when closed and a "Ro" when open, it was named "Kokoro" (meaning "heart"). The brand's philosophy of "using leather, a gift from animals, with care and gratitude" is also embodied in this name. Each item is handcrafted, and the fact that each one has a different texture is also part of its charm.
