An unusual early-20th-century Japanese utilitarian bundle composed of hand-twisted hemp rope wrapped around rolled cotton textiles, including indigo-dyed fabric and a woven carrying loop. Likely assembled by a farmer, fisherman, or craftsman for storing and transporting rope and work textiles. Richly worn with a beautiful patina, this untouched assemblage embodies the Japanese traditions of mottainai and everyday ingenuity.
