This early 20th-century Japanese textile sample book, known as a 見本帳 (mihon-chō), was used as a working reference for fabrics, patterns, and color combinations. Hand-assembled and bound with string, the book contains numerous small fabric swatches—printed, woven, and dyed—each mounted to the page and annotated in Japanese.
The book features handwritten annotations and retains its original string binding. Written in pencil on the cover is イロイロ (color color).
This was a practical tool, likely used by a textile workshop, merchant, or designer to document materials and design options. The pages show gentle wear, soft patina, and slight irregularities that reflect handling and long-time use.
Approximately 25 two-sided pages all filled with samples.
