Large Japanese Indigo Textile with Kamon Crest (Boro Panel)

Translation missing: en.products.general.regular_price $375.00
Details

A substantial indigo-dyed cotton textile composed of hand-sewn panels, featuring a boldly resist-dyed family crest (kamon). The deep blue surface shows extensive wear, repairs, and subtle variations from long use. The reverse reveals additional patching and reinforcement, highlighting its utilitarian origins.

The crest appears to be a stylized plant/leaf kamon, likely a variation of a futaba (paired leaves) or kashiwa (oak leaf) motif enclosed in a circle. The symmetrical paired leaves and rounded forms are commonly associated with agricultural or merchant families.

Likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this textile was originally used as a household or work cloth and later repaired over generations. This textile is perfect for use as a wall hanging, room divider, or large-scale decorative textile.

Condition: Heavy wear, visible mending, stains, and fading consistent with age and use. Structurally sound.
Material: Handwoven cotton, natural indigo dye
