Funatabi Atelier was founded by Motoko Oki, a designer who graduated from Musashino Art University in 2011 with a major in textiles. After working as a textile designer at an apparel company, she became an independent designer in 2017. She started m.Funatabi, a textile brand that incorporates her own artwork into fabrics.
Motoko Oki aims to create contemporary craft products that blend rigorous techniques with an artistic and flexible sensibility, bridging the gap between art and craft. Her focus on textiles suggests an interest in combining functional design with artistic expression.
Many of her fabrics are created with natural dyes, using plants and flower petals. Additionally materials like logwood, suo and onion skins are used.
