A vintage Japanese hand bellows used for stoking charcoal fires. Made with a wooden frame, pleated paper interior, and a metal nozzle, this compact bellows directed air precisely onto hibachi and hearth coals. Likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, it reflects the domestic tools of pre-electric Japanese households. Compact size suited to hibachi era domestic cooking. Beautiful patina and age-worn surfaces. The paper has small tears and worn surfaces, which is normal for an item of this age.
