Shimacho (Textile Sample Book)
Details
Dating from the early 20th century, this is an excellent example of a Shimacho 縞帖 (translated as stripe book), a textile sample book featuring examples of different weaving and dying patterns cut and glued on the pages. These books were often from a weaver showing the work they have done or a collector showing the different patterns they have found.
Over 40 double-sided pages showing hundreds of samples.
