This is the first Babar book, "The Story of Babar," written by and illustrated by Jean de Brunhoff, translated from French to Japanese, and published in 1956.
The book has many stains but no tears and is great for someone wanting to practice their Japanese, as all of it is written in Hiragana, the phonetic alphabet.
As is the tradition of Japanese books, this reads from right to left.
