Hand-knotted from sturdy rope with a metal frame and handle, this vintage Japanese mesh basket is believed to date to around 1900. It was likely used as a utility carrying bag, most likely for fishing or harvesting.
Today, it makes a unique decorative piece, whether hung on the wall or used to store lightweight household items. Wear and patina are consistent with its age and long use.
